It’s more than feeling “tired.”
When others call it a lack of discipline, inconsistency, unseriousness, or motivation, it can make you feel physically ill and emotionally upset. But that’s not who you are.
Sure, you have a short attention span, are easily distracted, and cannot finish tasks. This creates problems at school and work, especially since you find it hard to pay careful attention and focus on what matters. You also cannot concentrate long enough to read materials on your test.
Staying organized is out of reach, and you have trouble keeping up with assignments and various items, including clothes. That disorganization makes it challenging to do your work on time or at all, creating struggles for meeting deadlines and in your classes.
It’s not that you don’t care. You want to do better at work, home, and school, but your brain works differently – making you feel ashamed and guilty. Time and again, you promise yourself things will be different. But nothing ever changes.
These are symptoms of ADHD.
ADHD is a condition that can cause inattentiveness, hyperactivity, impulsiveness, forgetfulness, and other issues that can make it hard to navigate. There are therapeutic approaches that can be used to treat children and adults with ADHD.
My approach starts with evaluating the type and severity of the individual’s ADHD. Once this is determined, I use a protocol that involves therapeutic methods (e.g., Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness) to help alter specific behaviors. For children, their parents need training in providing support by allowing the child to stay organized and on task.
Several medications are also available. They can help increase attentiveness, allowing the child or adult to focus. When I recommend a medication, we first must determine the proper regime, dose, and type of medicine used.
You can make positive changes.
Having ADHD isn’t your fault. You can learn to manage it and even use it to your advantage.
With the proper therapeutic approach and medicine, when necessary, you can learn to live the life you desire without ADHD keeping you down.
Many of my clients have overcome ADHD’s hold, and I am here to help you do the same.
